In other words, they are framed by the reforms that began after 1968 and by the global ramifications of art history. The focus is on an undogmatic art history of the left: in my exchanges with students, artists and colleagues I address such themes as (post)marxism, feminisms, gender and queer studies, poststructuralism, postcolonialism, and media and popular cultures.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I am working on a book about Monte Verit\u00e0, the <em>Lebensreform<\/em> movement around 1900 and the historical roots of counterculture. A second book, <em>Concept Commune,<\/em> is investigating art of the 1970s in response to alternative lifestyles, including artist colonies, communes and collaborative art practices.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Natural history museums and botanical gardens are another focal theme, with a particular interest in contemporary policies linked to materiality and things. From 2017 to 2021 I served on the Scientific Advisory Board of the <u>Museum f\u00fcr Naturkunde in Berlin <\/u>((link to: https:\/\/www.museumfuernaturkunde.berlin\/en)).<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At the University of Hamburg I run <a href=\"http:\/\/curiousmatters.de\/en\/\"><em>Curious Matters: A Forum for Contemporary Art and Popular Cultures<\/em><\/a> and lead the Active Archives <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kulturwissenschaften.uni-hamburg.de\/ks\/einrichtungen\/ddr-archiv2.html\">GDR<\/a>\u00a0and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kulturwissenschaften.uni-hamburg.de\/ks\/einrichtungen\/materialarchiv.html\">Material<\/a>. I am also the patron of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kulturwissenschaften.uni-hamburg.de\/ks\/einrichtungen\/ksk-archiv.html\">KSK Archive<\/a>\u00a0and academic leader of the continuing education course in <em>Curating <\/em>at the Zentrum f\u00fcr Weiterbildung, Universit\u00e4t Hamburg.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I am a member of the following academic advisory committees:<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.anna-polke-stiftung.com\/en\/\">Anna Polke-Stiftung, Cologne<\/a>; SNF project <em>Africa Behind Glass<\/em>, Bern University of the Arts; <a href=\"https:\/\/neofelis-verlag.de\/verlagsprogramm\/zeitschriften\/tierstudien\"><em>Tierstudien<\/em><em>.
